How does Plausible work without cookies or device identifiers?
Plausible does not use cookies, browser cache, or local storage, and it does not attempt to create a device-persistent identifier. Instead, each HTTP request includes the IP address and User-Agent, which are converted into a daily-changing identifier using a hash with a rotating daily salt; raw IP addresses and User-Agent values are not stored, and salts are deleted after 24 hours.
Is Plausible data stored and processed in the EU?
Yes. Plausible processes and stores visitor data within the European Union on EU-owned infrastructure, and it’s hosted on servers in Germany. The service is designed around EU data privacy laws and uses security controls like encryption in transit (HTTPS).
How does Plausible handle privacy, security, and data protection obligations?
Plausible states it protects tracked data with measures such as backups, redundancies, encryption, strict firewall rules, private networking, secure backups, and bcrypt for password hashing. Can I delete my data, and do I retain ownership of my analytics data?
You can delete your account and delete your site stats at any time, and Plausible states data is permanently deleted without undue delay after deletion. Plausible also states you retain full ownership and control of your website data and that it does not sell your data.
Is Plausible open source and audit-friendly?
